Thankful Thursday – GeneaBloggers

Posted on: 01-20-2011 Posted in: GeneaBloggers

I can do many things.  I can draw and paint, knit lovely wooly things, design websites and design and create artisan jewelry.   I have good focus on the things that I am passionate about;  family, genealogy, history to name a few.

But a writer I am not.

I can sit paralyzed at my computer for hours trying to come up with a subject to write about.  Once I do think of a possible subject I’m at a loss as to how to present it.  Not to mention the additional problem of having so many family stories swimming around in my head it’s overwhelming to latch onto just one to write about.  I won’t even go into my being too wordy, and that old “comma overkill” thing I’ve got going!

I have had my genealogy website up for quite a while and my genealogy research goes back many years, but the blog is fairly new due to the above-mentioned problems.

So here’s my Thankful Thursday post.  Having recently (just a week ago) come across a website where genealogy blogging prompts are offered daily, my heartfelt thanks to “GeneaBloggers” for making my blog more possible than it was a few short months ago.

You’ve given me focus, you’ve given me inspiration!  I can look at a “Wednesday Wedding” prompt and think “Hey, I have a wedding photo to share!”  I have a treasure, I have something I’m thankful for, I have an ancestor that fits the bill!  And cemetery photos, I gots them!

Woohoo, I’ve been prompted!  :D

Along with my joy at finding blogging prompts there’s also a wealth of timely research information and resources and a great community of genealogy bloggers with so much to share.

My sincerest thanks!
MarDi

They truly do work and two blog posts from me in one day is the proof! :)

Many thanks to you and your contributors for all of the hard work that goes into making GeneaBloggers a wonderful resource. I’m so glad I found it.

    Hi MarDi,

I love your site! We have some things in common. I joined geneablogger today also :-)
I draw and paint also (mostly watercolor), I design and sell knitting patterns on ravelry.com
And I’m passionate about genealogy! My blog is just getting up and running, and I can totally relate to the writing issues, including the comma thing!

      Hi Claire,

Thank you for the kind comments!

We do have a lot in common, amazing isn’t it!

Very best of luck with your blog to which I’ll be a frequent visitor. And very best of luck (and much fun) with your family research.

I’ve just re-read my comment before posting to remove superfluous commas, the pesky things! I think I caught the worst offenders. )

      Thank you for visiting!

    Hallo MarDi,

I totally agree with you about being thankful for Geneabloggers. I found the blogging prompts wonderful and as you say, with all the different ancestor stories floating around in our head, it is difficult sometimes to know what to write about. The prompts are a great help.

I too am wordy, definitely, I just prattle on but I have received so many emails from people telling me how interesting and wonderful my blog is, (which thrills me to bits) then perhaps being wordy isn’t so bad. ;-)

You write very well and what you write is interesting, I will certainly pop back to visit your blog.

    Kind regards,

Christine (rootsresearcher at So That’s Where I Get It From)

    Hi Christine,

Thank you so much for the wonderful words of encouragement! I especially liked “perhaps being wordy isn’t so bad.”… then maybe there’s hope for me yet! ;)

I’m so glad you stopped by my blog so that I have the link to visit yours, I’ll be sure to visit. Thanks again, and have a great weekend. :)

      Hallo again MarDi,

I’m known as a chatterbox and I think I write just as if I was saying it all to someone. My dear Mum frequently tells me to cut two paragraphs into a couple of lines when I write letters!! But I think being wordy on the blog is where I fit. ;-)

Be as wordy as you want on your blog, I’m sure we will all find it extremely interesting. So don’t worry about it.

Thanks for popping over to my blog – I do appreciate it.

Have a great weekend yourself and happy blogging!!

      Kind regards,

      Christine

I love the geneabloggers prompts too! Without them I only had a couple of posts a month, now I write posts for almost every day of the week! Sometimes more than one! And I have found many great blogs like yours when I am looking at the lists of blog posts for the topics to get ideas on what to post! Keep up the great work on your blog!

      Hi Kellie!

It was the same for me with the first genealogy-based blog I had.

When I wrote this post I had just joined GeneaBloggers and hadn’t yet realized that the very best thing about it is in finding other blogs and connecting with some wonderful people!
