When I was a kid the famed Boston Marathon held a personal touch for me and my family. For several years my 1st cousin (1x removed) Arthur “Frank” Annis ran the marathon, which made Patriot’s Day in Boston a day for the family to gather at my aunt’s house on Newbury Street, where we then made the trip together to Copley Square to cheer him on at the finish line.
Frank was born on 25 Mar 1919 to Arthur Campbell Annis and Elizabeth Viola (Stewart) Annis. He served in the Army in WWII, and if memory serves me, he worked as an accountant in a large insurance company in Boston until his retirement. He was married to Mary E. O’Brian. Frank passed away on 8 Aug 1986.
Every year as we New Englanders follow the coverage of the Boston Marathon I always think of him, and how amazing it was that he always crossed the finish line of that grueling race, and often with remarkable finish times.
