Tombstone Tuesday – John Bishop (1709-1785)

Posted on: 01-22-2013 Posted in: General

John Bishop, my 6th great grandfather, was born in 1709 in New London CT, son of Eleazar Bishop and his wife Sarah Dart.  He married his first wife, Rebecca Whipple,  in New London on 20 May 1731.

Following Rebecca’s death on 17 Oct 1751 in New London, CT he married Hannah (Allen) Comstock, daughter of Samuel and Lydia (Hastings) Allen, and the widow of Gideon Comstock of Montville, New London CT.

Although his gravestone gives his date of death as 23 Oct 1785, his death occurred on 28 Oct 1785 according to most reliable sources.  A stone carver’s typo perhaps?

He is buried in the Old Cemetery, Wolfville, Kings,  NS.
